Tom Grape is the CEO of Benchmark Assisted Living -- the largest senior living provider in New England. Senior housing is one of the hottest real estate markets in the country, attracting core investors and foreign capital for the first time. Tom is excited to share some of his stories, discuss the impact of the baby boomers on senior housing and talk about the current real estate market with the MIT Sloan community.

Tom is a successful real estate investor and entrepreneur -- he started the company in 1997 with no properties; the company now has 43 communities and has innovated the way senior housing is done nationally. Recently awarded "Entrepreneur of the Year" by Ernst & Young for real estate/hospitality in the New England region, Tom also completed a two-year term as chairman of the national trade group for
assisted living.

The Evolution of Urban Housing in Mixed-use and Transit Oriented Developments
 
Since 1983, Hughes companies have developed numerous projects in Texas and Oklahoma and have consulted on five projects in Mexico. The area of emphasis for Hughes has been in large, inner-city mixed-use developments containing loft apartments, office, retail and entertainment uses. Current developments also include a single-family infill urban neighborhood and mid-rise and high-rise residential condominiums.
